What It's Like to Work Here

We at Baylor Jack and Jane Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital have created a high-performance environment where we seek to achieve quality clinical care and create a compassionate, patient-friendly environment. We also seek to create an environment in which our team members reach their professional goals to learn and grow, where we are part of the community in which we work, and where we are recognized for providing quality patient care.

Many organizations speak to these goals; our outcomes and employee and patient satisfaction data support it. We challenge our team members to meet or exceed stringent standards of clinical care and customer service. We provide the tools and the support necessary to achieve them. When our team members reach a goal, or perform in a way that deserves recognition, we acknowledge it.

A True Team

We take a true team approach to patient care, which stresses putting the patient above all else. We make sure everyone involved understands his or her role in patient care. We hold ourselves to high standards in clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and employee satisfaction, and we are among the highest ranked health care institutions. We communicate our results with team members at quarterly all-employee meetings, which enables team members to gauge progress, as well as promotes transparency.

Staff Development

We provide many opportunities for staff development, including tuition reimbursement and certification review classes. We encourage career development through the Center for Nursing Education and Research, which provides resources to conduct nursing research as well as an RN skills lab. Our Achieving Synergy in Practice through Impact, Relationships, and Evidence (ASPIRE) program awards bonuses up to $5,000 for demonstrating the difference our practice makes for individuals, populations, and organizations throughout the health care continuum. Additional classes are offered for nurses who want to move to positions of preceptor or charge nurse.

Giving Back

Our team is highly involved in community service. Many of our personnel participate in screenings, provide lunches for the Austin Street Shelter (800 per month), adopt a needy family at Christmas, and participate in a food drive every two months for a local shelter.

Recognition

Our focus on quality has gained our organization recognition, such as the Magnet Award for Excellence in Nursing Services and the 2007 VHA Award for Clinical Excellence. Click here to learn more about our awards and accolades.

We also offer individual recognition, such as the Service Excellence Award for outstanding service. Service excellence is about "performing with purpose, doing worthwhile work and making a difference."

Baylor is committed to putting our patients first. We work as a team to provide a great work environment of personal and professional support to each other, as well as those who come to us.

Patients expect our professional expertise and competence. Health care is also very personal to our patients. Each day they give us opportunities to touch their lives through kindness and compassion and to make empathetic connections. Each communication with them or their families is representative of Baylor's commitment to service, quality, and safety.

Service Excellence is found in employees who look for opportunities to make the hospital visit or stay "easier" and more pleasant for everyone who comes to Baylor, whether in the big or little details. Even one person can make a difference.

Winners of this award are nominated for the quarterly CEO award, which carries a $2,500 bonus.
