Baylor Offers Programs to Fit Your Life

The benefits of working at Baylor go beyond a paycheck. We offer several programs that support your personal and professional goals, plus a variety of medical, dental, and other benefit options that provide the coverage that best suits you. Here's a look at our benefits.

Retirement Savings Plan

Baylor offers a generous 401(k) plan with a dollar-for-dollar match up to 5 percent of eligible pay. You're immediately eligible to make contributions and receive company matching funds, which vest on a five-year schedule. You may contribute 1 percent to 50 percent of eligible pay on a pre-tax and after-tax basis.

Medical Coverage

Eligibility for medical benefits starts on your first day of employment. We offer three plans, all administered by Aetna. Each option includes great prescription drug benefits through retail pharmacies and mail order.

  • Aetna Consumer Gold offers the choice of visiting any licensed physician, the ability to roll your health reimbursement account over from year to year, and tools to help manage health care needs
  • Aetna Consumer Silver offers the same benefits as the Gold option but with a higher deductible, an out-of-pocket maximum, and lower premium costs.
  • Aetna PPO offers copays for your office visits and prescription drugs and coinsurance or hospital care after your deductible is met.


Coverage is offered through Superior Vision Services. You may use in- or out-of-network vision care providers and receive either contact lenses or eyeglass frames once every 12 months.

Dental Coverage

You can choose from two options for yourself and your family:

Aetna DMO, the managed care option. You can choose a primary care dentist for yourself and each covered family member. There is no deductible and most preventive care is at no cost. You pay only your share of the cost for other dental expenses, and the amount depends on the services you receive.

MetLife PPO is the preferred provider option. You may use in- or out-of-network providers. The plan pays 100 percent of preventive care with no deductible. You must meet a deductible before benefits for other types of dental services begin.

Wellness Benefits

Focusing on your health can pay off for you and your spouse. You are eligible for $260 in wellness benefits each year, plus a $10 credit toward your medical premium in every paycheck. Our wellness program allows you to take advantage of fitness center discounts and a wide variety of free, wellness-related services including:

  • An interactive website featuring health trackers, exercise plans, nutrition tips, customized articles and more
  • Health screenings, seminars, and competitions
  • Telephone health coaching and disease management coaching for those who qualify

Tuition Reimbursement

After six months of employment, full-time employees are eligible for tuition reimbursement. We reimburse 100 percent of "residency" in-state rates for approved courses completed with a grade of C- or above, up to $5,250 a year.

Employee Assistance Program

Baylor offers an employee assistance program to help you deal with life's challenges. Services are free, voluntary and confidential. All employees and their dependents are eligible for up to five free counseling visits per occurrence during a 12-month period. Free work/life services such as financial planning and legal advice are also available.

  • Home sweet home! You will let them know in what kind of place you'd like to live, type of amenities you'd like in a home or apartment, location, etc. They will identify a list of places for you to look at AND, if you make an appointment, they will even accompany you to look at the apartments or homes so you don't have to find your way around Dallas or Fort Worth on your own.
  • Getting the lights turned on! They will give you information on how to set up utilities and get a Texas driver's license if you're coming from another state.
  • Discounts! Mention you're a Baylor employee and they'll help you find apartments that give Baylor employee discounts.

Other Benefits

We also offer life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment insurance on your first day of employment for you and optional additional coverage for you and your family. We also offer short- and long-term disability after 90 days of service; flexible spending accounts for health care and dependent day care; and paid time off after three months of service.

Paid Internships

Graduate nurses can begin the career of a lifetime with our paid internships in 13 medical specialties. You'll work beside quality physicians, educators, and preceptors to build your skills and confidence to smoothly transition from the classroom to a clinical setting. Internships also are open to nurses who want to change specialties or to those who want to return to their careers after a long absence.

  • To help our nurse leaders develop to their fullest potential, Baylor is developing a Nurse Leadership Academy and Fellowship for Nursing Administration. The academy will provide a convenient and inexpensive way for nurses at the supervisor level and above to develop leadership skills and prepare for advancement opportunities. The fellowship program will help prepare high-potential nurse leaders for vice president and chief nursing officer positions.
  • Our tuition reimbursement program - up to $5,250 a year - helps you change careers or earn an advanced degree.
  • We offer continuing education classes for most licensed clinical professionals - with most classes available at no cost - and support for certification.
