Baylor Scott & White Health has asked for family and visitors to understand that we have transitioned
to a one visitor per day restriction upon the guidance from the Center for Disease Control and
Prevention, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and federal, state and local authorities
to protect the health and safety risk of patients and staff during the COVID–19 pandemic.
All visitors must be over the age of 16 and use the designated entrance at the valet area. For the safety of our patient and caregivers, we are only permitting one visitor per 24–hour period. Additional details may be provided by scheduling or registration personnel.
Upon arrival, patients and visitors will be screened using CDC guidelines. All persons entering the building must wear a mask. All approved visitors will undergo a temperature check. Those with a temperature at or more than 99.6 degrees F will not be permitted to visit.
At Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital, we understand your anxieties about a hospital visit. Our entire team of nurses, clinical staff, support staff, and physicians on the medical staff has your comfort, safety, and peace of mind as our number one priority. You and your family can feel assured that you will be taken care of physically, spiritually, and emotionally.
Prior to admission, you physician will give you a Pink Packet that includes a patient history form for you to complete and instructions that you should read. The day prior to admission, we will call you to review some introductory information, including what to bring. We request that you bring your pink packet, if you have completed the paper version, and all medications in their original bottles, which includes any over-the-counter medications, homeopathics, herbal preparations, and supplements.
When you first arrive, your day will begin at Access Services on the ground floor. In addition to the clinical team, you will have access to a guest relations representative throughout your stay. Our Guest Relations department provides a variety of concierge services. After completing registration, paying the deductible, and doing some paper work, including consent forms, you will proceed to one of our Specialty Care Unit floors. There, you will check in and be escorted to a pre-procedure area. Family members and friends will be shown to the waiting room while a nurse takes your vital signs and goes over some information with you. You may then join your family while you wait for your procedure to begin. We will give you updates as to the time of pick up for your procedure. As you can imagine, procedures can take longer than expected. We also receive emergency patients through the emergency room and by helicopter. Should there be any delays in your procedure time due to a longer prior case or an emergency, we will let you know.
We encourage you to leave valuables at home, with family or a close friend, but if this is not possible, we offer secured lockers and safes.
When it is time to enter the operating room, we will direct your family to the closest waiting area and discuss the approximate length of the procedure. Once the procedure is complete, a staff member will transport you to the recovery area, while your physician talks with your family in the waiting area. Depending on the nature of your procedure and the anesthesia used, you may remain in the recovery area for as little as one hour or as many as six. If you are staying the night at the hospital, a member of our staff will take you to your room. We have accommodations for one person to stay the night with you in your room.
Once your physician writes orders for you to eat, you may order a heart-healthy meal in your room. Our nutrition services team is here to serve you. You may ask your nurse for assistance when placing an order. A Nutrition Services representative is available to take your order between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. and will deliver your heart-healthy meal in about 45 minutes or less. Nutrition services will deliver a freshly prepared meal that is consistent with your doctor's instructions. Family members are welcome to order meals for $7 each.
